Key Themes

This virtual roundtable, with a special fireside chat, will delve into the critical pathways for creating regional collaboration that enables a powered Africa, focusing on pivotal areas such as:

  • Identifying Barriers: What are the biggest barriers to forging partnerships for expanding energy access in Africa
  • Strengthening Partnerships: How can partnerships between governments, private companies, and development agencies be strengthened to ensure universal access?
  • Policy and Regulation: What policy changes are needed to create a more favourable regulatory environment for partnerships in energy investment?
  • Regional Integration: How can regional integration create an enabling environment for cross-border projects and investments to improve energy access?
  • Innovative Financing: What innovative financing models are currently being used to accelerate electricity expansion?
  • Global Best Practices: What lessons can Africa learn from other regions that have successfully expanded energy access through effective partnerships?

    Africa's Energy Future:
Regional Collaboration for a Powered Africa

Africa's promise as the engine of global growth is contingent on a fundamental necessity: energy access. With over 600 million people living without electricity, the continent faces a paradox of immense potential and profound scarcity. This energy deficit isn't just an economic issue; it's a critical obstacle to a just energy transition, threatening to leave Africa on the margins of a decarbonised world.

Overcoming this challenge demands more than just capital; it requires a strategic alignment of global, national, and, critically, regional forces. While off-grid solutions have provided hope, achieving universal access by 2030 will necessitate a colossal $25 billion in annual investment. This scale of funding can only be unlocked through innovative partnerships.
