Join African Business with energy industry leaders to engage in virtual conversations to explore Africa's Energy landscape
Despite housing nearly one-fifth of the global population, the African continent contributes less than 3% of the world’s energy-related carbon dioxide emissions. However, the energy access gap remains substantial: around 600 million Africans, or 43% of the population, lack access to electricity. This lack of electricity is severely hobbling Africa’s industrial development. Reliable and affordable energy is essential for industrialization, agricultural productivity, and the provision of essential services. Without it, economic growth is stunted, and opportunities for development are limited.
Africa’s vast renewable energy potential, especially in solar and wind, presents significant opportunities. By harnessing these resources, Africa can contribute to global efforts to reduce carbon emissions and support its own development. The oil and gas industry also plays a pivotal role, serving as transition fuels to provide reliable and affordable energy during the shift to cleaner sources.
The African Business Energy Series will serve as a platform to explore solutions and collaborative strategies. By fostering dialogue among policymakers, industry leaders, and civil society, the series aims to catalyze the investments and policy frameworks necessary for a sustainable and equitable energy future for Africa.
